so we have more on order. They should be

Jamie Mills-Price's new book, Christmastime
Between the Vines, is delightful and selling
well. Although there are fewer books this
year, we are pleased with the quality.
There's also a good variety to please all
tastes.
On Sunday, March 11, I attended the White
Mountain Decorative Painting Guild's meeting.
Cindy Harrison taught a small seascape
collage designed by Ginger Edwards from her
book Painted Canvas Collage (PLA-9879). I
liked the way she used ribbon to finish the
stapled edge of the canvas to keep the cost
of the project down. She used Harrington
stretched canvas which is not as deep as
standard canvas and thus easier to finish
with a ribbon and is less expensive than
using a frame or using a gallery wrap canvas.
Keep your eyes and ears open for unique ways
of finishing projects and altering designs to
use on different surfaces!

popular. The artists have been inspired by

Viking Publications has decided to take a new
approach to book publishing to keep prices
down. Messages from Santa by Judy
Westegaarde CDA is the first group. Each
book contains two or three projects but
retails for $9.95. This is only slightly mor
than many packets which only contain one
design. Each also contains excellent color
worksheets.

Plaid has launched a new line of brush-on
and dimensional fabric paints. Although we
are not carrying these paints at this time,
we do stock DecoArt's So-Soft Brush-on and
Dimensional Fabric Paints. People would who
like to try fabric painting might also mix
textile medium with regular acrylic paints.
Converting to regular FolkArt acrylics is
simple since Plaid used the same color names
for the fabric line. This is thoroughly
acceptable on any fabric especially heavier
fabrics such as denim and canvas. For
lighter weight garments such as tee shirts,
fabric paint is really preferred. Fabric
stays soft and flexible.

Practice, practice, practice! One Stroke
practice aids are great for any kind of

beginners. Have students practice strokes

The March/April 2007 Spring Issue of The
Painting Rag is now available. This issue's
featured free design is a beautiful pattern
of "Daffodils" by Laure Paillex. The 9 inch
diameter design was painted on a 10" round
basket lid. It would also look lovely on a
plate or Bentwood box. The full design is
three repeats of different daffodils so you
should also be able to alter this design to
fit other items. The pattern may be traced
and painted for personal use only.

Don't forget to notify your customers and
students when new books are available and
what new brushes or products they might want
to buy at the same time.
I see more and more articles in trade
journals indicating that consumers are
changing their buying habits, preferring
specialty stores for a better choice of
products. As you know, a full range of paint
colors hasn't been available in chain stores
for several years. Now's your chance! If
you don't wish to have all the colors in
stock, make sure your customers know that you
will order any color they want. We can tell
you if it's in stock and it's okay to buy
just one bottle. (The discount will be less
than 50% if you do not buy a full package.)
We will have a booth at the MAD Painting Show
in Lake Harmony, PA at the end of April. The
show is open to the public Friday, April 27
thru Sunday, April 28.
